Leipzig, September 16th, 2026 – This summer, Leipzig-based cybersecurity provider Procilon celebrates its 25th anniversary. In just a quarter of a century, the company has evolved from a small Saxon tech start-up into one of Europe's leading providers of secure communication, trust lifecycle management, and trust backend solutions.
At the forefront of innovation in the fields of Digital Trust and secure communication, Procilon actively invests in research and development and contributes its expertise to numerous industry bodies. Its involvement spans areas such as the preservation of evidential value for digital documents, advanced and qualified electronic seals and signatures, and the development of secure communication infrastructures for EUDI wallets. Cloud-first and API-first principles are standard at Procilon, as is compliance by design. Technologically, the company is ideally positioned to continue its growth trajectory and has already begun expanding beyond the DACH region into the wider European market.
When Procilon was founded in 2001, such ambitions were still far away. At that time, the company's focus was on flexible middleware solutions for the public sector. In 2004, Procilon reached its first major technological milestone with the launch of proGOV, its first platform solution. As a modular secure mail gateway and integration platform, proGOV enabled the company to rapidly enter new markets, first the energy sector, followed by the justice sector and eventually healthcare.
In 2018, Procilon became majority-owned by Harald Quandt Industriebeteiligungen (HQIB). This provided the financial resources required for the company to embark on its first buy-and-build strategy. As part of this strategy, Procilon acquired German electronic signature specialist intarsys in 2021. Through intarsys' electronic trust services platform, Sign Live! cloud suite gears, Procilon significantly expanded its market presence in both Germany and Switzerland. At the same time, the company continued to advance technologically, introducing proTECTr, a modern cloud-based platform for highly secure, encrypted, and legally binding digital communication in heavily regulated sectors.
The company continued to prosper and grow. Its success soon attracted further investor interest, including Main Capital Partners, which began exploring opportunities with the cybersecurity provider. In 2024, Main Capital Partners acquired all shares in the company. Procilon's growth strategy continued through both organic expansion and acquisitions. In 2025, Procilon acquired Austrian company POS Solutions, a specialist in digital onboarding, online identification, and electronic signatures. The acquisition opened up two additional markets for Procilon: the banking industry and Austria. Today, Procilon is represented across the entire DACH region with local offices and experts.
More than 2,200 customers and 20 trust centers rely on Procilon's expertise. The company's infrastructure software processes over 100 million secure messages per month, more than one million qualified electronic signatures, around 10 million electronic seals annually, and more than 600,000 evidence preservation transactions per month, totaling over 25 million archived evidence preservation cases.
Dirk Czepluch, who has served as CEO since 2024, is highly satisfied with the company's growth over recent years but continues to see substantial potential for further expansion:
"With its modular, scalable, and highly secure platform solutions, Procilon has played an important role in preparing Germany for the digital future. Without Digital Trust as a stable backbone, comprehensive digitalization across government and business is impossible. We are ideally positioned not only to strengthen our presence in the DACH market but also to expand successfully into the European market. In addition to our proven products, our dedicated experts and our highly scalable, flexible solutions and services are true differentiators."
Eike A. Eul, Investment Director at Main Capital Partners, also sees his investment thesis confirmed:
"For 25 years, Procilon has stood for reliability, technological excellence, and a deep understanding of highly regulated markets. I am continually impressed by the consistency with which management continues to develop the company, by its commitment to creating digital solutions that are both sustainable and secure, by its strong team, and by the clear values on which everything is built. All of this strengthens our conviction that Procilon will successfully continue its growth trajectory in the long term."
With the acquisitions completed in recent years and its flexible portfolio of solutions that meet even the most demanding security and compliance requirements, the company is ideally positioned for the next stage of its growth journey.
